Maayan Chadash was started in 2012 as a participatory minyan committed to halakha. We aim to create a space where all who come to pray are active participants, from the oldest members of our community to the youngest. The Shabbat morning service follows the traditional liturgy. On Shabbat mornings, the prayer service begins with a woman leading P’sukei D’zimrah. A man then leads Shacharit, a woman leads the service associated with taking out the Torah and returning it, and a man leads Mussaf. Pre-bar/bat mitzvah girls and boys typically lead the close of the service. Both men and women receive aliyot and read from the Torah. A man or a woman may read the haftarah. There is a male gabbai and a female gabbait. We have separate seating with a mechitza during tefillah b’tzibbur; the public space at the bima is shared by men and women, and is a welcoming space for all. We have groups for kids of all ages; including a junior tefillah for ages 6-11 where the participants can build skills in davening and reading Torah.
Our halakhic advisor is Rabbi Martin Lockshin. If you have any questions about the minyan please email us at [email protected], or fill out the contact form below.
